Coach Fired

Wichita, KS: (Mar-11-08) Jane Albright, women's basketball coach at Wichita State University has been locked in a legal battle with the university, over the termination of her employment contract. Sources close to the case stated that Albright would not be back next season, though she will coach the team in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.

Albright's record is 48-94 in five seasons and WSU is 9-21, finishing last in the 10-team MVC this season (3-15). WSU athletic director Jim Schaus said that a settlement has been reached between the two parties in which the university will pay the coach $250,000, terminating her services. Jane Albright has three years remaining on her contract past this season.

In a statement released by the university, Schaus stated that he commended Jane Albright for providing exemplary care for the student-athlete, quality academics and extensive community service with her team. He also said that at the Division I level, there were expectations for athletic success and the program, after five years, had not shown sufficient growth or progress, leading to the decision to terminate her services.
