Free Water Sewer Services

Lumberton, NC: (Mar-06-08) The city of Lumberton brought charges against US Cold Storage in February 2002, alleging that it was owed money for water and sewer services. The suit claimed that the company owed the city more than $208,000 for 2001. The city claimed that it filed suit because it realized the company was using well water and getting sewer services without paying for it.

Sources stated that the parties had reached a settlement in which the city agreed to write off $802,179, which included $579,938 in late fees. US Cold Storage agreed to pay the city $125,910 to settle the issue. As part of the deal, the city would not be able to collect anything for well water used by the company. The city stated that it agreed to approve the settlement because prolonging litigation would add further legal costs to the city. [FAYETTEVILLE OBSERVER: LUMBERTON COMMITTEE APPROVES SETTLEMENT]
