Workplace Injuries

Lincoln, RI: (Feb-18-08) The Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration brought charges against Packaging Concepts Limited, alleging that the facility had an extraordinary number of workplace injuries since 2002. Federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration records show Packaging Concepts Limited reported 125 injuries from 2000 and 2006. Officials claimed that the number of injuries declined in 2005 and 2006. Sources stated that the injuries ranged from a partly amputated finger, to a broken pelvis, crushed and fractured fingers, and punctured palms, fingers and thumbs. The suit stated that the most serious recent injury occurred in December, when Leonardo Cos Elias lost his leg, buttock and half of one hip after becoming trapped in a machine while at work. Sources close to the case reported that the display case manufacturer has reached three settlement agreements with the federal government over workplace injuries. It will pay an undisclosed sum to the federal government to resolve allegations, though company officials have declined comment because of the ongoing investigation into the accident. Records show that Packaging Concepts Limited has been fined multiple times for worker injuries. [WPRI NEWS: WORKPLACE INJURIES]

About two years ago I made a claim against the City of Newport News. I was hurt on the job while lifting 5 gallons of paint. I filed for compensation through their Risk Management who has a third party call PMA Management. I was being seen by the city doctor for a while, but I needed farther review which my personal doctor arranged for me, PMA vacated from my case. I had to have back surgery to repaired disc and in placed a metal to retain stability all under my medical coverage. I filed for worker’s compensation and to regain my loss of leave time and monies under my medical plan through the court without a lawyer. All the way up to the Virginia court of appeal. My question can I go any farther to get my worker’s compensation as of this date. As I’m still having issues with my back.
