Golf Course Taxes

Silver Spring Township, PA: (Jan-31-08) Lettermen Inc., the company that owns Rich Valley Golf Course, brought a lawsuit against Silver Spring Township, over a property tax dispute. Sources close to the case stated that the parties resolved the long standing dispute by entering into a settlement agreement. Under the deal, the township agreed to pay $925,000 to the golf course developer, which is over 14% of the $6.4 million the township plans to spend this year providing goods and services to township residents. Sources stated that the settlement is more than the township expects to spend from its general fund on bridges and roads, more than it will spend on parks and recreation. The settlement apparently ends seven years of litigation over the township's efforts to force Lettermen to pay for off-site improvements as a condition of approving plans for the course.
