Ozone Pollution

Dallas, TX: (Jan-30-08) State environmental protection agencies brought charges against Holcim Inc., one of three Midlothian plants, alleging that the company had air quality violations at its facility. Sources close to the case stated that the company agreed to a $2.25 million legal settlement to resolve allegations. Officials stated that Holcim agreed to pay the money to the Sue Pope Fund as part of a commitment to lower pollution that contributes to ground-level ozone, which is the Dallas-Fort Worth region's top air quality concern. Groups involved in using the money include the local advocacy group Downwinders at Risk, who will help buy hybrid taxis, train developers to build eco-friendly houses and communities, and replace old, polluting lawn mowers.
