Job Training
Des Moines, IA: (Jan-13-08) The federal government brought charges against the state for allegedly owing it money for job training grants that the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium (CIETC) improperly spent on employee bonuses and six-figure executive salaries. Sources stated that the payroll scandal erupted in April 2006, the agency's employees and many of its responsibilities were taken over by Des Moines Area Community College and made part of a new job training agency called Iowa Employment Solutions.
As part of a settlement reached, the member governments of the Central Iowa Employment and Training Consortium have approved a $1.3 million settlement agreement with the state. That would entail taxpayers in Des Moines and the eight central Iowa counties reimbursing the federal government for about half of the $1.3 million in job training grants that CIETC improperly spent.
