Priest Abuse

Yakima, WA: (Jan-08-08) Four women brought lawsuits against the Catholic Diocese of Yakima, alleging that they were abused by Father Michael Simpson at a Toppenish church during the 1960s. Sources close to the case revealed that the diocese had reached a settlement with the four women by paying them a total of $200,000. The church did not admit to any wrongdoing, but stated that the settlement was a bid to avoid the costs and risks of protracted litigation. The lawsuits were dismissed in Yakima County Superior Court in December 2007. Sources claimed that Bishop Carlos Sevilla also wrote the women a letter apologizing to the women for any abuse that might have occurred. [KAPP TV NEWS: PRIEST ABUSE]
