Paralympic Civil Rights

This is a settlement for the Civil / Human Rights lawsuit.

Washington, DC: (Jan-08-08) Mark Shepherd, a US Paralympic basketball player and manager of Disabled Sports Services for the USOC from 1994-2001, brought a lawsuit against the US Olympic Committee (USOC), seeking $10 million in punitive damages and $1 million in personal damages. The suit claimed that USOC violated the Americans with Disabilities Act and other civil rights laws. Sources close to the case revealed that the parties had reached a settlement, though terms of the deal were being kept confidential. Shepherd stated that the settlement is fair to both sides and that the USOC is making a valid attempt to improve the Paralympic program and change some things that in the past have been inequitable.
