Construction Claims

Topeka, KS: (Jan-02-08) Federal prosecutors brought charges against Koss Construction Co. and Koss Materials Co., a Topeka paving company, alleging that they submitted false claims under a federal program for disadvantaged businesses. US Attorney Eric Melgren claimed that Koss and Ideker, Inc., of St. Joseph, MO, submitted bogus claims to state and federal transportation authorities. The claims falsely stated that the firms had met terms under the Disadvantaged Business Enterprise Program by obtaining materials from A.G.W. Steel.

As part of a settlement reached with the state, Koss Construction Co. and Koss Materials Co. agreed to pay $600,000 to resolve allegations. Sources stated that A.G.W. Steel, Inc., of Decartur, IL, will pay $50,000 and Ideker, Inc., of St. Joseph, Mo., will pay $22,000. Under terms of the settlement, the companies admit no wrongdoing, but have entered into settlement agreements to avoid further litigation. [KTKA NEWS: CONSTRUCTION CLAIMS]
