Roof Repairs

Ripley, OH: (Dec-27-07) The Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington Board of Education (RULH) brought charges against architectural engineering and design firm Eeman & Blinn, Inc., alleging that the firm installed a faulty roof at RULH High School more than 15 years ago. The suit, filed in 2004, stated that Eeman & Blinn, Inc. was responsible for the roofing flaws. Eeman & Blinn, Inc. was subcontracted by Tanner, Stone & Co. Records show that the roof began undergoing repairs in 2005 and was completely fixed in 2006. The Ohio School Facility Commission (OSFC) funded 96% of the repairs, and had funded the same portion of the school's general construction in 1992.

As part of a settlement reached, the construction firm agreed to a $290,000 payout. Officials claimed that 7% of that amount, $20,300 will go to the school district, while the rest will be paid to the Ohio School Facility Commission. Sources close to the case stated that the settlement agreement eliminates the possibility of any future claims specifically pertaining to the uplift bridging of the roof, but other problems with the general construction of the building that are noticed in the future will still be subject to litigation.
