Deputy Inspector
Frankfort, KY: (Dec-13-07) Mike Duncan, a Kentucky state worker, brought charges against the state, alleging that he was illegally fired for political reasons during the administration of former Gov. Ernie Fletcher. The suit stated that Duncan was fired in 2005 from his job as chief deputy inspector general in the Transportation Cabinet, which was Fletcher's last full week in office. Sources claimed that this case was one of the major personnel actions reviewed by a special grand jury that investigated the merit system hiring scandal that damaged Fletcher politically.
As part of a settlement reached, the state agreed to pay Duncan $369,200 and reinstate him to his earlier position, compensating him with back pay. The settlement amount included $129,200 in lost wages during the 26 months he was out of his job. It also included $240,000 to settle the lawsuit, which Duncan filed against the cabinet in US District Court. The amount includes attorney's fees. [COURIER JOURNAL: STATE EMPLOYEE]
