Sexual Harassment Settlement
New York, NY: (Dec-10-07) Anucha Browne Sanders, former Knicks team executive, brought charges against Madison Square Garden and Chairman James Dolan, alleging that she was wrongfully terminated in retaliation for her complaining about team coach Isaiah Thomas' offensive behavior. She claimed that Thomas and other Madison Square Garden employees, including Knicks star Stephon Marbury, engaged in sexual harassment of team-mates. The suit stated that Thomas verbally abused Sanders and then suddenly professed love for her. The jury found that Thomas had sexually harassed Sanders, but failed to reach agreement on whether he should be forced to pay. As part of a settlement reached, the sensational sex harassment case was resolved after Madison Square Garden and Chairman James Dolan agreed to pay $11.5 million in punitive damages.
