Duane Reade

Newark, NJ: (Nov-26-07) The state of New Jersey brought charges against Duane Reade International Inc., alleging that the New York City-based company sold expired and mispriced nonprescription drugs, baby food, and other products at its New Jersey stores. Though the store did not admit to any wrongdoing and denied the allegations, it agreed to pay a $175,000 civil penalty and reimbursed New Jersey $25,000 for legal and other costs incurred by the state. As part of the agreement, the chain will check expiration dates, discard expired items, train staff and not sell products in excess of the price displayed. [NJ BIZ: DUANE READE]
