Police Chief Termination

Manitowoc, WI: (Nov-21-07) Police Chief Perry Kingsbury brought charges against the city, alleging that he was wrongfully terminated following a yearlong investigation by a Madison law firm. Attorneys compiling the report recommended Kingsbury be fired for inefficiencies and official misconduct. He had been promoted to chief in April 2002. As part of a settlement reached, sources claimed that the city agreed to pay Kingsbury $80,000, which includes $48,576.84 in earned benefits he was entitled to as an employee, including vacation, sick leave and floating holiday payouts. Further, the settlement agreement stated that city officials believe Kingsbury is not guilty of criminal misconduct related to his handling of city funds, and that the former chief did not intend to misappropriate city funds.
