Property Tax

Kokomo, IN: (Nov-18-07) Howard County brought charges against Delphi Corp., alleging that the company owed property taxes. Records show that Delphi filed for Chapter 11 protection in October 2005 and stopped production in the summer of 2007 at a factory in Anderson, but still employs several thousand people in Kokomo. As part of a settlement reached, Delphi Corp. has agreed to pay more than $6 million in property taxes. Under the settlement, Delphi would pay about $4.6 million in unpaid personal property taxes and $1.8 million in real estate taxes for a total of about $6.4 million. Sources stated that the County agreed to waive $1.9 million in penalties. Howard County, Kokomo, Kokomo-Howard County Public Library, Kokomo-Center Community Schools and Howard County's Center Township would receive the settlement amount. [MLIVE: PROPERTY TAX]
