Auto Promotion Fraud

Orlando, FL: (Nov-09-07) The state brought charges against Bill Heard Chevrolet, alleging that the company engaged in deceptive trade practices. The suit was filed after an investigation into the company's trade practices revealed it had misleading advertisements and promotions. Florida investigators found many game promotions, such as Fantastic Fortune Getaway and Scratch-Off Extravaganza, which falsely promised cash prizes, turned out instead to be suspect discounts on car purchases.

As part of a settlement reached, the state levied nearly 30 compliance orders and $400,000 in fees and other costs on Bill Heard Chevrolet, resolving the lawsuit. Heard Chevrolet, which denied any wrongdoing, agreed to settle the case, which involved the largest-ever cash amount for a car dealership in Florida. Heard will pay $200,000 to the state for costs of the investigation and donate $200,000 to Seniors v. Crime, a volunteer watchdog program co-sponsored by the state.
