Wal-Mart Scales,

Madison, WI: (Nov-07-07) The state of Wisconsin brought a lawsuit against Wal-Mart Supercenters, after inspectors from the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection discovered computerized scales at check-out counters were malfunctioning at nine Wal-Mart Supercenters around the state. The suit claimed that the scales were not deducting the weight of the packaging as they are supposed to do. As a result of the faulty scales, sources claimed that consumers could be paying as much as twenty-one cents more per pound of coffee because of the heavy packaging. As part of a settlement reached, Wal-Mart agreed to pay $90,000 to resolve the allegations. Since individual consumers can't be identified for refunds, the settlement money goes into a fund for public schools. [WRN NEWS: WAL-MART SCALES]
