Psychiatric Suicide

Kalamazoo, MI: (Oct-30-07) Joyce Gills, a West Michigan mother, brought a lawsuit against the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital after her son died in their care. The suit was filed naming the hospital and the state of Michigan as defendants, after Gills's son committed suicide back in 2005. Records show that Corban Ward was taken to the hospital after threatening to harm himself and others. He was later found hanging by his belt. In her suit, Gills claimed that the hospital failed to take her son's belt and even tried to conceal the fact that her son had taken his own life. As part of a settlement reached, the Kalamazoo Psychiatric Hospital agreed to pay Gills $725,000, resolving the wrongful death lawsuit. [WWMT NEWS: HOSPITAL SUICIDE]
