Organ Recovery
San Luis Obispo, CA: (Oct-15-07) Rosa Navarro, mother of 25-year-old Ruben Navarro, brought a wrongful death lawsuit against Dr. Hootan Roozrokh and the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center, after the death of her disabled son. The suit claimed that Ruben Navarro died at the hospital after being taken off life support while he was being prepared for organ recovery. Criminal charges are pending against Roozrokh, who Rosa suspected gave Ruben Navarro drugs to speed up his death so that his organs could be recovered in a transplant operation.
As part of a settlement, the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and its owner, Tenet Healthcare Corp., agreed to pay Rosa Navarro $250,000 to resolve litigation. As per records, Rosa named Roozrokh's attending physician, Dr. Arturo Martinez; the California Transplant Donor Network; Sierra Vista hospital and Tenet Healthcare; and the Permanente Group Inc., which employs both Roozrokh and Martinez, as defendants in the lawsuit. The settlement amount was paid by the Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center and Tenet Healthcare Corp. [VENTURA COUNTY STAR: ORGAN RECOVERY]
