Oil Field Pollution
Los Angeles, CA: (Oct-12-07) Plaintiffs in Beverly Hills brought a lawsuit against Frontier Oil Corp. and its subsidiary Wainoco Oil & Gas Co., in 2003, alleging that the facility polluted the environment. Sources stated that in the seven lawsuits, more than 1,000 plaintiffs named Frontier and Wainoco, as well as the Beverly Hills Unified School District and the City of Beverly Hills, claiming that emissions from the companies' Los Angeles oil field, or the production facilities located at Beverly Hills High School, caused cancers or various other health problems in those individuals.
As part of a settlement reached, Frontier and Wainoco agreed to pay $10 million to resolve the allegations and end litigation. The Houston-based refinery operator said its share of the cost is about $6.2 million, which will be funded through its insurance provider. [LOS ANGELES BUSINESS JOURNAL: OIL FIELD POLLUTION]
