Wastewater Facility

Venice, FL: (Oct-07-07) Cardinal Construction brought charges against the city of Venice, alleging it refused to pay $1.1 million in overrun costs related to the building of the new eastside wastewater facility. The suit claimed that the laying down a major pipeline for the new eastside wastewater facility and constructing new lift stations was completed in February 2005, at which time Cardinal Construction submitted a claim to the city for $1.1 million in overrun costs. When the city refused to pay, Cardinal sued. As part of a settlement reached, the city agreed to a $700,000 payout along with Boyle Engineering Corp., the city's engineering contractors, who were countersued by the city after Cardinal filed charges. As per the terms of the deal, the city will pay $400,000 and Boyle Engineering Corp. will contribute the remaining $300,000, ending the three-year-long dispute.
