Restricted Substance

Tamuning, Guam: (Oct-03-07) The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) brought a lawsuit against Carrier Guam, a refrigeration and heating equipment company in Tamuning, alleging that the company illegally imported an ozone-depleting substance. The report said Carrier Guam imported over 32,000 kilograms of hydro chlorofluorocarbon, which is restricted by the Clean Air Act. As part of a settlement reached, Carrier Guam agreed to pay the EPA $63,922 to resolve the lawsuit. On Sept. 29, 2007, the USEPA filed a similar complaint for $76,402 against JWS Refrigeration & Air Conditioning, also of Tamuning, for importing over 25,000 kilograms of the same chemical. Neither release said where the EPA believes the refrigerant was imported. [PACIFIC DAILY NEWS: RESTRICTED SUBSTANCE]
