Mud Slide

Penn Hills, PA: (Oct-03-07) The Colaizzi family brought a lawsuit against Penn Hills after their house was destroyed by mud that slid from municipal property. The suit stated that the family had lived there for 27 years, but had to demolish the house after local officials declared it uninhabitable because of the damage. Forty tons of dirt and trees hit Dennis and Marcy Colaizzi's house at 218 Springwood Drive in January 2005. In a settlement reached, the council approved a $35,000 final settlement with the Colaizzi family, who now live in Plum. The Colaizzis previously received $10,000 from the municipality and another $40,000 from a federal grant awarded to Penn Hills in August 2006. As part of the settlement, the municipality will take ownership of the vacant lot from the family, said Terry Van Horne, municipal manager. [PENN HILLS PROGRESS: MUD SLIDE]
