Thomas Gleason

Omaha, NE: (Sep-05-07) Charges were filed against former Omaha attorney Thomas Gleason, 57, alleging that he attempted forgery as well as stole $64,000 from six clients. Gleason pleaded guilty to two counts of theft and two counts of forgery and faces up to five years of probation or 20 years in prison on each count. In return for his pleas, prosecutors dropped eight other theft or forgery counts against Gleason. He surrendered his law license after his arrest in connection with six clients' reports that he never paid them their portion of settlement amounts in personal injury and other cases. His legal counsel stated that that his client was practically paralyzed by depression and was simply sitting in his office without working. He was using his clients' settlement checks to pay his share of several months' office expenses at his former Regency firm.

In a settlement reached, all of the clients have been reimbursed through a bar association fund. Gleason claimed responsibility to pay back the bar fund. [OMAHA WORLD HERALD: ATTORNEY FRAUD]
