Veterans for the Homeless et al.

Denver, CO: (Sep-05-07) The state of Colorado brought charges against three charities, Veterans for the Homeless, Colorado Children's Assistance Center, and Front Range Charitable Services, alleging that they didn't give all of the money they collected to the needy. The suit stemmed from an investigation started by the Boulder County District Attorney's office after the charities solicited more than $20,000 from an 84-year-old woman in Boulder County. The investigation found between 50% and 80% of the donations collected went directly to the solicitors. The remaining funds went to pay personal utility bills, lending to relatives and funding of vacations to places like Las Vegas.

In a settlement reached, Veterans for the Homeless, Colorado Children's Assistance Center, and Front Range Charitable Services agreed to repay $130,000 to resolve allegations. [CBS DENVER: CHARITY FRAUD]
