Ocean County College

Ocean County, NJ: (Sep-02-07) Karen Bosley, a journalism professor at Ocean County College (OCC), brought a lawsuit against the college alleging that she had been wrongly transferred to another department. Bosley, who had been teaching at OCC for the better part of 36 years, reached a settlement with the College Board after they agreed to pay her $90,000. Further, as part of the settlement agreement, she was restored to her proper position, teaching in her area of expertise rather than in some other field. In addition, two professors who were fired by OCC in 2005 took the college to court and won the right to know why their contracts had not been "renewed." The ruling was handed down in the spring. Each of the former professors was awarded $50,000 and granted assurances that the college would not speak ill of them to prospective employers. Sources claimed that the case has set a precedent.
