Kent, OH

Kent, OH: (Aug-29-07) Eleven anti-war protesters brought a lawsuit against the Kent city police department, after they were arrested during a 2003 rally at Kent State University. The suit claimed that the eleven protesters were arrested as the crowd moved off the campus and marched onto Main Street. They were then stopped by about 200 police officers in riot gear. Police told the marchers they could not walk on the street, and the marchers then retreated to the sidewalks, where they chanted and yelled at police. Eleven of the 12 people arrested that day joined a civil suit filed in May 2005, alleging they were arrested without probable cause. In a settlement reached, the city of Kent agreed to pay $65,000 to 11 anti-war protesters, to resolve the wrongful arrest civil lawsuit. [WKYC NEWS: PROTESTERS ARREST]
