Emeritus

Austin, TX: (Aug-28-07) Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott brought a lawsuit against assisted living facility operator Emeritus, alleging that the company committed Medicaid fraud. The Attorney General's office conducted an investigation that revealed improper billing practices at eleven Emeritus facilities throughout Texas. Among other allegations, Abbott claimed Emeritus deprived its residents of legally required amenities and services. In a settlement reached, Seattle-based Emeritus agreed to pay nearly $1.9 million to the state of Texas to resolve false and inaccurate billing to Medicaid. Further, as part of the settlement agreement, sources claimed that Emeritus has agreed to remodel its facilities to comply with the law. [TEAM 4 NEWS: MEDICAID FRAUD]
