Black Hawk County, IA

Waterloo, IA: (Aug-25-07) Three women brought a lawsuit against Black Hawk County, alleging that they were sexually abused while being held in the county jail. The plaintiffs are not being named because they were victims of sexual assault. The suit, filed in 2006 in US District Court, against the county, the estate of Deputy Jeffrey Condit, Sheriff Michael Kubik and several other deputies claimed that Condit coerced them into performing oral sex while they were detained at the jail. The sex acts happened in May and June 2004, just weeks before Condit died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The other deputies were named for failing to act on the inmates' complaints against Condit. Kubik was named because he was in charge of the jail. Court records show one woman was in jail on an attempted murder charge, another was awaiting trial for manufacturing methamphetamine and the third was in jail for burglary.

In a settlement reached, the county Board of Supervisors agreed to pay two of the plaintiffs $19,000 each and $5,000 to the third plaintiff. The county also is picking up legal fees that push the total costs above $50,000, the maximum the county must pay through its insurance coverage. This is the second time in five years the county has settled a lawsuit over allegations of sexual misconduct in the jail. [WCF COURIER: DEPUTY MISCONDUCT]

I was recently convicted of 2 counts of criminal trespassing and 1 count of 3rd degree burglary. I served almost 2 years for it and recently won my appeal in April of 2019. The county attorney and Waterloo police altered and tampered with evidence to convict me in the first place. They altered video footage and also had a fake witness involved in my case. This was in Blackhawk county. When does my statue of limitations run out? Is it 2 years from my arrest date our is it 2 years from when I won my appeal? I would really like to charge them with a civil suit. If anyone knows about the statue of limitations I would greatly appreciate it if you could let me know. If there are any lawyers interested in looking into my case contact me on my email. Thanks,Derek
