Tony Masilotti

Palm Beach, FL: (Aug-13-07) A public corruption charge was filed against former Palm Beach County Commissioner Tony Masilotti. Earlier, in June 2007, Masilotti was sentenced to five years in federal prison for his role in a number of illegal land deals. Following a federal review suspecting him of using his influence in land deals, Masilotti resigned from his position as chairman on Oct. 27, 2006. In his one-page letter of resignation, Masilotti admitted he crossed the line in inappropriate land deals.

In a settlement reached, the former chairman agreed to forfeit two parcels of real estate worth approximately $9 million and $175,000 in cash. Masilotti's ex-wife Susan, mother of his daughters, also was embroiled in the corruption case. Though she was not charged in the lawsuit, she agreed to forfeit $400,000, an amount she received in the couple's divorce settlement in 2006. The money came from a tainted Martin County land deal that was brokered by her ex-husband when he was a commissioner. Sources state that Masilotti assembled a real estate portfolio worth $7 million to $20 million through a series of tainted land deals. [WPBF: REAL ESTATE FRAUD]
