Kent County school system and the Kent County Sheriff's Department

Baltimore, MD: (Aug-07-07) The Maryland chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) filed suit against the Kent County school system and the Kent County Sheriff's Department on behalf of two students. The suit claimed that the students were subjected to an illegal strip search after a drug search took place at Kent County High School in Worton. Drug-sniffing dogs were used and more than a dozen students were searched, but efforts revealed no drugs. The ACLU claimed that this action was a violation of the students' civil rights. In a settlement reached, the two students received $285,000 in damages along with written apologies from the Kent County school system and the Kent County Sheriff's Department.
