Dr. Hicham Riba

Chicago, IL: (Jul-18-07) The family of 5-year-old Diamond Brownridge, who died after being over-medicated during a dental procedure, filed a medical malpractice suit against Dr. Hicham Riba, a Chicago dentist. The suit claimed that the 5-year-old died after the anesthetic that Riba gave her, caused her to be unable to breathe and forced her into a coma from which she never awoke. Brownridge died on September 23, 2006 after she was taken to Riba's office to have her teeth capped and several cavities filled. In a settlement reached, Riba agreed to settle the litigation against him for $1 million, a figure that the family said does little to compensate for the death of the young girl. The settlement amount will be paid by Riba's insurance carrier. [EARTH TIMES: DENTAL SEDATION]
