Coastside Scavenger

Pacifica, CA: (Jul-19-07) The city brought a lawsuit against Coastside Scavenger, alleging that the Pacifica garbage company failed to provide audited financial reports for both Coastside Scavenger and its sister company, Seacoast, which was required under their original agreement with the city. In a settlement reached, Coastside Scavenger agreed to the issuance of a $100,000 surety bond the company was required to provide the city as part of its franchise agreement. The surety bond is needed to cover the city against late payments and other cash-flow problems. In the earlier audit, city officials concluded that Pacificans are paying higher rates for their garbage pickup than residents in 19 other San Mateo County cities. Moreover, the consultants concluded Coastside Scavenger had been overcharging residents during a five-year period to the tune of some $634,000. The settlement also includes reimbursement of legal fees to the city of Pacifica. [PACIFIC TRIBUNE: GARBAGE ACCOUNTING]
