V Group

Jefferson County, OH: (Jul-13-07) A federal jury in December 1999 returned a verdict against the V Group, the former Cleveland company that designed and oversaw construction of the justice center in Jefferson County, alleging that the group provided faulty design, underestimated the annual operating costs of the jail, offered poor performance as the overseer of the project and delayed on the completion of the project. Paul Voinovich, owner of the V Group, filed for bankruptcy protection, but died in August 2002. The case remained in bankruptcy and probate courts the entire time until the trustee issued the settlement check to the county. The settlement was made with a $765,846 payout to the county. This adds to the $13.3 million it received earlier for problems with the construction of the Jefferson County Justice Center. [THE INTELLIGENCER: JAIL CONSTRUCTION]
