Mooresville, NC

Mooresville, NC: (Jul-04-07) Victor Marquis, his wife Madeline, and his daughter and son-in-law, Elena and Richard DaCosta, filed a lawsuit against the town of Mooresville, claiming that they would lose land and landscaping as a result of the town's decision to pave an adjacent street. The Marquis' and the DaCosta's jointly own approximately 2 acres on the corner of West Center Avenue and Sherrill Street. As part of the state-initiated Gravel Street Improvements Project, Mooresville planed to pave and upgrade Sherrill Street. Those upgrades meant that Marquis' greenery must be removed to make room for curbing and sidewalks. In a settlement reached, the town of Mooresville has agreed to pay the family $38,000 to compensate for the damages to their property. [MOORESVILLE TRIBUNE: LANDSCAPING DAMAGE]
