Southern States Claims Services

Moss Point, MS: (Jun-20-07) The city of Moss Point reached a settlement with Adjusters International, an insurance company mediator, over damages to vehicles during Hurricane Katrina. As a result of the Hurricane Katrina automobile insurance settlement, some of the cars that make up the junkyard of police vehicles across the street from the city's police station can be removed.

Hal Arnold, executive general adjuster for Adjusters International, stated that the city will be paid $161,000 in automobile insurance for 25 cars and the insurance company, Southern States Claims Services, should then arrange to remove those cars, including any that are in that lot. The only other insurance settlement the city has received is its initial $500,000 advance, and is likely to request a little more than $1 million in total wind damages and reach the $500,000 limit for flood damages. The city's total vehicle claim is $669,000, and of the $400,000 remaining to be granted, about $300,000 is for fire trucks. Arnold stated that if the insurance company does not pay the additional $400,000, the city should consider binding or non-binding arbitration to reach a settlement. [GULF FIVE: JUNK CARS]
