TXU Corporation

This is a settlement for the Commercial lawsuit.

Dallas, TX: (Jun-05-07) Federal regulators brought charges against the electric retail unit of TXU Corporation, alleging that the Dallas-based company broke the law by signing up several thousand business customers to one-year contracts, without their consent. Beginning in 2005, regulators said TXU sent notices saying the service would be renewed for 12 months unless those customers contacted TXU or changed to another provider. It allegedly renewed the contracts of about 4,000 small commercial customers. According to Texas law, any service renewed through an automatic renewal clause can last no longer than 31 days. In a settlement reached, TXU Corporation has agreed to pay a $5 million fine to end the contract dispute. [NEWS CHANNEL 5: TXU CONTRACT]
