Suzanne LaBombard

Isle La Motte, VT: (Jun-02-07) The Isle La Motte select board filed charges against Suzanne LaBombard, a former town clerk who admitted misappropriating $100,000. A criminal investigation is still under way into LaBombard, who resigned on March 10, 2007 and reportedly confessed to taking the money.

In a settlement reached, the town agreed to LaBombard paying a $150,000 settlement to resolve the case. Residents criticized the board for withholding information about the alleged embezzlement for three days and accepting LaBombard's offer to pay back $150,000 and fund an audit. The $150,000 can cover only the audit of town books that were under LaBombard's control during the past six years, as well as legal expenses related to the case. As part of the settlement, the town will be allowed to seek more money from LaBombard if the audit determines more funds were missing. [TIMES ARGUS: CLERK EMBEZZLEMENT]
