Bloomin' Apple Rockford I LLC

Rockford, IL: (May-24-07) Former Applebee's employees filed a sexual harassment lawsuit against the neighborhood grill and bar restaurant chain. The suit, originally filed by five employees, alleged that 14 women had been touched inappropriately and had to undergo harassment. It claimed the women were continually subjected to comments of a sexual nature from the restaurant's manager, who is not named in the 2004 lawsuit filed by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

In a settlement reached, Bloomin' Apple Rockford I LLC, which owns and operates the Applebee's Neighborhood Grill and Bar at 1675 E. Riverside Blvd., denied the allegations, but agreed to pay a cash settlement and to several terms regarding discrimination practices, policies and training.

The company will pay $300,000, enabling 14 women to receive cash settlements ranging from $500 to $25,000. As part of the agreement, over the next two years, the company must submit written reports to the EEOC record all complaints of sexual harassment or retaliation and require all employees to participate in classes to recognize sexual harassment and retaliation. The company will also pay $65,000 in legal fees. [ROCKFORD REGISTER STAR: APPLEBEE'S HARASSMENT]
