Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust

Hungerford, UK: (May-09-07) The family of now six-year-old Ashton Hopkins, of Park Way, Hungerford filed suit against the Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust, after the boy contracted a neo-natal infection at Swindon's Princess Margaret Hospital within days of his birth in September 2000. Though the illness was genetically transmitted by his mother Zoe, the suit claimed that doctors failed to pick up on the warning signs and administer vital anti-biotics. The medical negligence on the part of hospital staff resulted in life long debility for young Ashton, as the infection resulted in profound brain damage. The Swindon and Marlborough NHS Trust admitted liability for his injuries and agreed to a settlement with the family that will take the form of an undisclosed lump sum, plus annual payments throughout his life. The settlement figure is said to be well over seven figures. [NEWBURY TODAY: NEO-NATAL MALPRACTICE]
