Chino Latino

Minneapolis, MN: (Apr-30-07) Chino Latino, one of the stars of the Parasole Holdings chain that includes the Good Earth, Muffuletta, Figlio, Salut Bar Americain and Manny's Steakhouse, agreed to settle a racial discrimination filed against it by paying $325,000 to settle claims brought by the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The suit filed was on behalf of employees who alleged that Chino Latino discriminated against its Hispanic employees, subjected them to harassment and then fired two of them, Pedro Carrasco and Edwin Santoscoy, after the employee meeting they organized in 2003 that took their complaints to the company. The Hispanic and Latino workers were also subjected to a hostile work environment where they faced racial slurs and were given shorter breaks. The agency entered the dispute after Carrasco filed a discrimination charge against the restaurant which led to the final settlement. [STAR TRIBUNE: RACIAL DISCRIMINATION]
