Danisco

Franklinton, NC: (Apr-17-07) Novozymes is a Denmark based world leader in the development of enzymes that could make alternative fuels more widely available. Novozymes filed suit against rival firm Danisco, over patent infringement of its biofuels technology. Novozymes alleged that Danisco infringed on its patent covering the enzyme Spezyme Ethyl. The suit was originally filed against Genecore International in 2005. Danisco later acquired Genecore. In a federal court ruling in August 2006, Novozymes competing product manufactured by Danisco was withdrawn from the market. The settlement includes damages of $8.2 million, taking Danisco's payout to $15.3 million, ending the patent infringement lawsuit. [LOCAL TECH WIRE: BIOFUEL PATENT]
