Arkansas, USA

Little Rock, AR: (Apr-16-07) The US Department of Health and Human Services filed a lawsuit against state Department of Information Systems (DIS), alleging that the state owed $9.4 million for billing errors that occurred from fiscal year 1997 through fiscal year 2000. DIS provides information technology services like computers, Internet, data networking and technical consulting to nearly all state government entities, many of which receive a combination of state and federal money. The federal government determined that under DIS' billing practices, the ratios between federal and state funds used for the services often were incorrect. Federal authorities claimed that because the disputed billing practices had continued, the state might have to pay as much as $30 million if it did not prevail. In a settlement reached, the state agreed to pay $44 million to resolve the long standing dispute. [TIMES RECORD: DIS BILLING]
