Clarkesville, TN: (Apr-08-07) Detective Travis Hisel, a Clarksville Police Officer filed suit in a US District Court in October 2004 against the city, alleging that he was retaliated against and denied promotion for filing a grievance against a superior for allegedly making a racial slur. A federal jury ruled in Hisel's favor after determining that he had been retaliated against after reporting the supervisor who racially discriminated against him. The jury, however, dismissed the claim that Hisel had been denied promotions as part of that retaliation. In a settlement reached, the jury awarded Travis Hisel $50,000, ending the racial discrimination lawsuit. [LEAF CHRONICLE: OFFICER RETALIATION]
