Lumberton, NC

Lumberton, NC: (Mar-28-07) Pro Construction filed suit against the city of Lumberton in March 2006 alleging that the city owed it $519,000 for the construction of the new City Hall. The contractor said it was owed $519,000 for the project, which has already cost the city $5.5 million. But city officials contended that the four-year project finished 260 days late and a clause in the contract allowed it to fine the company $1,000 a day for each day the project was not completed. The city withheld another $259,000 when the company failed to install audio-visual equipment and a security system. In an out of court settlement reached, the city will pay $350,000 to Pro Construction, the project's architect, Overcash-Demmitt of Charlotte, also a defendant in the suit, will pay an additional $75,000.
