Mansfield, LA

Mansfield, LA: (Mar-26-07) A lawsuit was filed by Carlos January accusing Mayor Curtis McCoy of a civil rights violation and invasion of privacy as well as wrongful termination within days of demanding back wages related to his care and training of the department's canine officer. January was suspended in early January 2006 in connection with his handling of crowd control problem on a business parking lot. He sent demand letters for back wages to both McCoy and Police Chief Don English in March 2006, listing the hours each said he amassed during his dog-handling duties. The lawsuit was filed in May 2006 after the city did not respond to the letters. In a settlement reached between the parties, January will receive a $65,000 settlement ending the litigation.
