BNSF Railway

Curry County, NM: (Mar-21-07) The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) filed suit against BNSF Railway accusing it of dumping wastewater into a lake about a mile south of its railroad yard in Clovis. The EPA discovered hazardous substances in and around the lake and determined wildlife had been harmed. Contaminated soil, sediment, water, and native grass at the site have been cleaned up by BNSF, but the Department of Justice ruled BNSF must pay for an additional restoration project. In a settlement reached, BNSF paid $459,000 to restore lakes in Curry County. [CNJ ONLINE: BNSF RAILWAY WASTEWATER]
