Trafigura

South Africa: (Feb-14-07) Oil magnum Trafigura was sued by the Ivory Coast after thousands of people died after waste from the oil trader's ship was unloaded. Trafigura agreed to pay the authorities $198 million, which will be used to reimburse costs incurred for removing the waste and treating those affected after black sludge was dumped in open-air sites around Abidjan. Neither Trafigura nor the Ivorian government has accepted any liability for the dumping. [EUROPEAN WEEKLY: OIL DUMP COMPENSATION]
