Chicago Police Department

Chicago, IL: (Feb-12-07) Cornelius Ware, a paraplegic, was pulled over in front of his house by some plain clothed Chicago police officers. The men demanded Ware to get out of his car, but he was unable to do so due to his disability. Ware was shot at by the officers. Police contended that they saw Ware with a gun, which prompted their action. Ware's family claimed that he was shot at six times, and a gun was planted to justify the shooting. Ware died three weeks after the 2003 traffic stop. The city settled with the family for $5 million. [CHICAGO TRIBUNE: PARAPLEGIC SHOOTING]
