Louisville, KY: In 1993, William Thomas Gregory was convicted of rape and two counts of attempted rape. He was sentenced to 70 years in prison after a hair comparison linked him to hair found in a stocking worn by the attacker. In 2000, DNA testing proved the hair was not his and Gregory was freed from prison. Gregory filed a lawsuit against the state of Kentucky and accused Kentucky State Police forensic examiner, Dawn Ross Katz, of falsifying the results of the hair comparison. A judge has approved a $700,000 settlement. (Jan-05-07) [HOUSTON CHRONICLE: WRONGFUL RAPE CONVICTION]
